The UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has launched a £6.3 million Men’s Health Community Fund in partnership with Movember and People’s Health Trust. The government is contributing £3 million, with the two charities more than doubling the total funding. The initiative is part of the government’s broader Men’s Health Strategy for England.
The fund will support community-led projects targeting men and boys aged 16 and over, particularly in underserved and disadvantaged areas. Programmes will focus on key life stages and risk points, including transition to fatherhood, unemployment, and retirement, as well as issues such as loneliness, social isolation, and low engagement with health services.
The programme is designed to test new delivery models by working through voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations. It aims to improve access to care for men who are less likely to engage with traditional healthcare systems. An evaluation led by the National Institute for Health and Care Research will assess outcomes and identify scalable approaches.
The initiative sits within a wider policy push to reduce health inequalities, including a government target to halve the gap in healthy life expectancy between the richest and poorest regions. Separately, the government has committed £3.6 million over three years to suicide prevention programmes targeting middle-aged men in high-risk areas.
