Regensburg-based digital health startup brainjo has secured €2 million in seed funding to support the development of its virtual reality-based mental health applications. The round was led by High-Tech Gründerfonds, with participation from MEDICE – The Health Family, business angels, and investors including Andreas Weinhut and better ventures.
brainjo develops Digital Health Applications (DiGAs), a category of software that can be prescribed by clinicians and reimbursed by health insurance. Its products are designed to complement traditional psychotherapy by enabling patients to access therapeutic interventions at home through VR, rather than replacing clinician-led care.
The company’s first product targets children with ADHD and is being developed in collaboration with MEDICE. brainjo plans to use the new funding to conduct clinical studies and pursue regulatory approval, with market entry targeted for 2028.
The company positions its approach as a way to address structural challenges in mental healthcare, including limited provider availability, long waiting times, and restricted access to services. By integrating VR into prescribed care pathways, brainjo aims to expand treatment capacity and improve patient engagement.
